About the Wyoming Valley West School District

Elementary students attend one of four K-5 centers: State Street Elementary Center in Larksville, the largest with nearly 1,400 students, Dana Street Elementary Center in Forty Fort, Chester Street Elementary in Kingston and Third Avenue Elementary in Kingston for kindergarten. Everyone moves on to Wyoming Valley West Middle School on Chester Street in Kingston for grades 6 to 8 and Wyoming Valley West High School on Wadham Street in Plymouth for grades 9 to 12, home of the Spartans. Students may also attend the West Side Career and Technology Center. District offices are at 450 North Maple Avenue, Kingston, PA 18704; the website is wvwsd.org.

Where you can live

  • Kingston: the most populous borough in the county, tree-lined streets across the Market Street Bridge from Wilkes-Barre.
  • Forty Fort: a small, established borough with the highest home values on the West Side.
  • Swoyersville, Luzerne, Pringle and Courtdale: smaller boroughs climbing the hill from Kingston toward the Back Mountain.
  • Edwardsville, Larksville and Plymouth: river and hillside boroughs downriver from Kingston with the district’s most affordable homes.

The whole district sits inside the Wyoming Valley levee system, which held during the record 2011 crest, though the lowest-lying blocks in Edwardsville and Plymouth saw water that year. Note that Plymouth Township, across the river from Nanticoke, is in the Greater Nanticoke Area School District, and the Back Mountain above Luzerne and Pringle is in the Dallas and Lake-Lehman districts.
