Streets of pre-war singles and doubles run off Wyoming Avenue toward the river; the borough has its own sports complex, community pool and small general-aviation airport.

Location and commute
U.S. Route 11 runs through the borough as Wyoming Avenue and Route 309, the Cross Valley Expressway, passes along its edge, so Interstate 81 and downtown Wilkes-Barre are both a few minutes away. Scranton is about 20 miles by car.
Schools
Forty Fort is in the Wyoming Valley West School District. Dana Street Elementary Center, a K-5 school of about 600 students, is inside the borough; the district’s middle school is in Kingston and its high school in Plymouth. Wyoming Seminary’s Lower School, serving preschool through grade 8, is also in Forty Fort.
History and landmarks
- The Forty Fort Meetinghouse, built between 1806 and 1808 at River Street and Wyoming Avenue, was the first completed church in the area and is on the National Register of Historic Places.
- Forty Fort Cemetery beside it is where the 1972 Agnes flood famously unearthed some 2,000 caskets, a story every longtime resident knows.
- Wilkes-Barre Wyoming Valley Airport, a county-owned general-aviation field, straddles the Forty Fort and Wyoming line.
- Borough recreation includes a sports complex, a community pool and Betty Mascelli Park.
