About the Pittston Area School District
Pittston Area was created in 1966 when six smaller districts merged, and today it is one of the larger districts in Luzerne County. Students start at the Martin F. Quinn Primary Center in Hughestown (pre-kindergarten to grade 2), move to the Pittston City Intermediate Center (grades 3 to 5), then the Martin L. Mattei Middle School (grades 6 to 8) and Pittston Area Senior High School in Yatesville (grades 9 to 12), home of the Patriots. District offices are at 5 Stout Street, Pittston, PA 18640; the website is pittstonarea.com.
Where you can live
- Pittston City: a revitalized Main Street, Riverfront Park and the Tomato Festival, with hillside streets of singles and doubles.
- Pittston and Jenkins Townships: newer subdivisions next to CenterPoint Commerce & Trade Park and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport, minutes from Interstate 81 and the Turnpike.
- Avoca, Dupont and Duryea: the boroughs along Route 11 and the Lackawanna River toward Scranton.
- Hughestown and Yatesville: small boroughs on the hill above the city.
Note that West Pittston, just across the river, is in the Wyoming Area School District, and the Plains Township side of the valley is in the Wilkes-Barre Area School District. We confirm the district on every listing before you tour it.
