About the Wilkes-Barre Area School District

The district was reshaped in 2021 when Wilkes-Barre Area High School opened on Wolfpack Way in Plains Township, consolidating the old Coughlin, G.A.R. Memorial and Meyers high schools into one campus for grades 9 to 12 with about 2,600 students. The former G.A.R. building became G.A.R. Middle School, joined by Solomon/Plains Middle School, and five K-5 elementary schools serve the neighborhoods: Daniel J. Flood, Dodson, Dr. David W. Kistler and Heights/Murray in the city and Solomon/Plains in Plains. The district also runs a STEM Academy, a Creative and Performing Arts Academy, a Business Academy and a cyber academy. District offices are at 730 South Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18711; the website is wbasd.k12.pa.us.
